At Night Zookeeper, it is our mission to make children fall in love with writing. Whether your child loves or loathes writing, this section of our website explains all about the writing standards expected of children at different grade levels, and how you can help your child attain them. Get started by flipping through the graded tabs above!
We run through Grades 1-6, identifying the key focuses of writing tuition at each level, and looking at three key writing types which are common throughout elementary/early middle and primary school: opinion writing, informative writing, and narrative writing. Practice tips are included to provide practical ways that you can help your child achieve their writing goals in each of the key areas for their writing level.
Our online program, nightzookeeper.com, has many aspects that can help a child improve their writing, from report writing lessons, to character creation and description, to a constant stream of writing prompts. The program also adequately covers auxiliary skills to writing - grammar, puncutation and spelling - to ensure your child has the necessary skills to write cohesively and vividly. The program is adjustable to graded levels of difficulty to personalise your child's learning journey, and lessons can be assigned to keep your child focused where you have specific learning goals for them. Writing regularly on Night Zookeeper will transform your child's writing ability!
We understand that children learn at different paces and have a variety of educational needs, and so we felt graded pages, rather than age-suggested, was most appropriate. Through these guides, we aim to provide a strong outline of how to equip your child with a firm grasp of the fundamental writing skills covered across elementary/primary and early-middle school.
