Preparing pupils for the future

What is it exactly that educators are supposed to be preparing pupils for?

The subject being discussed on #ukedchat this evening between 8-9 GMT will be an incredibly interesting topic for all involved. We will be discussing what educators are supposed to preparing pupils for. My initial thoughts on this subject are that we should ready them for a life of learning. As I mentioned in an earlier post it is vital that educators provide children with the skills they need to acquire knowledge independently. It is my opinion that teaching content should come secondary to this.

I am sure that during the debate we will drill down much further into this discussion potentially touching on issues such as the social and emotional well being of all children. Preparing them for the the challenges that society may well throw at them in the not too distant future. It may also be said that as teachers we have a unique opportunity to inspire a passion within a child. It is our job to provide a vast array of experiences for students so that they can make their own decisions in the future.

Whatever is debated this evening I'm sure it'll make for incredibly interesting reading and I am personally looking forward to contributing.
